Nadi Shuddhi · and what it leaves
Find the centre.
A beam balances on a pivot in the middle of the stage and rocks constantly, a hot flickering weight at one end and a heavy dull weight at the other. Tapping either end makes it swing harder. Press and hold on the pivot and the rocking dies away; the beam comes level and still and turns gold, and stays level for a long time after you let go.
What Nadi Shuddhi leaves behind is a level system. Most of us live at one end of a beam or the other — too much, restless and hot; or too little, heavy and dull — and every knock from the day sets us rocking again. A few minutes of this breath and the rocking stops: the head clears, the two sides of the system come to rest, and the mind sits even and quiet. You cannot get there by pushing on either end. Try it. Then rest a finger on the pivot.
