Meditation & Sound
Mantra Yoga · Aum Chanting
There is a beautiful story in the yogic lore that describes how when Adiyogi utters three AUMs, a whole new creation comes into being. The story is a dialectical expression of the possibility of the sound AUM. Known as the universal or basic sound in the existence, AUM is a combination of the three primordial syllables – “Aaa”, “Ooo”, and “Maa”. AUM chanting is a powerful practice that aligns the three fundamental aspects of the system – body, mind and energy – leading to a more profound experience of life. It helps stabilize the body and mind, thus eliminating psychological disturbances and alleviating chronic ailments. AUM chanting creates a powerful basis for further inner exploration.
- Helps stabilize the body and mind
- Helps come out of psychological disturbances
- Relief from excessive fear, nightmares, unstable mind
- Remedies attention disorders
- Helps bring resolve in life
AUM · the first sound
Sound it.
A scattered field of small marks fills the stage, drifting, with a single bright point at the centre. Draw a circle with the pointer or a finger, and a vibration spreads outward from the centre; the marks it passes turn to face the centre and settle into rings around it. Three circles align the whole field.
A mantra is a vibration, and a vibration draws toward itself what it is tuned to. AUM is the first of them, the sound the rest are made of, and it goes round: it opens at the back of the mouth, carries forward, and closes on the lips. Chanted with attention it brings the universe into alignment with your spiritual self — not by asking, but by resonance. Draw a circle with your hand: that is one AUM. Watch what it does to the field.
